Project Management

What Is Project Management And Why Is It Important?

Project management is the process in which you control projects. Planning, organizing, and implementing tools and ideas that pertain to the current project you are working on.

Project management is essential to a successful end. The better the control of what is happening to the project, the more successful the project will be. Many approaches to project management are used.

The traditional approach to project management follows five simple steps. The initiation stage, or start of the project, begins the process. Once that is complete, the planning stage begins. The first two stages are short and take little time. Next is the production or execution stage. This is where the project takes the most time. It is also combined with the next stage of monitoring and controlling systems. Finally, the last stage is completion. This is where your end product is visible, whether it be a model sized version of an architectural drawing or the house itself.

Other versions of the traditional approach of project management are often used, including the agile unified process. This is a shortened version of the traditional project management process, however it is more in depth. The agile unified process of project management is geared more for corporations and small businesses. The first step is a combination of the traditional approach's first two steps, but also includes project funding and stakeholder acceptance. The second step of this approach is proving the structural design of the plan. After this has been proven, construction of the project is underway. This step of the project management process can take anywhere from a few hours to a few years. A deadline should be created so that it does not get dragged out longer than necessary, and should include time for unexpected delays such as weather and illnesses. Finally, after this construction is complete, it becomes time to transfer the product into use.

Which ever project management method is used, it should be the appropriate process for the project. This is easily determined by the projected end result and what resources are necessary to reach the goal. There are many project management companies that will help you keep your project on track, help you through the process, or manage the process for you. Keep them in mind should you have more than one project on the go and not enough employees to go around to all the projects. These companies do charge fees, so ensure that the budget for the project you need a project management company for includes these fees.
